Missy99912 - Wow, thanks for the kudos Missy. You know, I read in People Magazine last night about how its medically recommended to only implant TWO eggs in a woman. OMG, how are these people squirting out six to eight kids at once? Sounds so dangerous to me. Congrats on the multiples!

TV Snark - If I you knew how I felt running this blog … people are CRAZY/RUDE/INSANE. I hate that I get sucked in to going GHETTO on them.

Jen - There is nothing wrong for a person to go to a bar. Drinking is fun. Reality show people have to just watch out what they do when they go inside them. I know that … and Jon should have been aware of that fact as well, right?

As for typos, I do make them myself on my own blog posts from time to time. But, its mainly because I have a stupid neurological disease. When I’m not sick/tired/stress/pressed for time I write very well and professionally. Your going to have to look around at read some posts about myself to understand for proof of that.

My pet peave is people who have no idea how to write … and this is my blog, so I’m entitled to say this. If a person makes one typo, I can deal with it as long as they aren’t being a jerk to me. But, if you want to emphasize a point, I expect people to write well. If you can’t write well I consider you dumb. My own BFF is a college professor and she has students who turn in their Theisis, and if she sees one correction on the first page, then they have to redo the ENTIRE paper. That’s just how it rolls in the academic world. Some colleges may let you slide but the good Universities will kick your ass.

Kelly, N, Ash, Liz - Are you serious? This family has never been normal. I need all of you to do this: Imagine what if Kate was a man, and Jon a woman and you saw Jon slapping Kate and yelling at Kate and telling Kate what to do all the time. Would you honestly feel they were lovable, normal and happily married couple?

For many many months I was ignorant about what many others thought about the Gosselins. Only when a friend emailed me did I look them up and start mentioning my feelins online. From the beginning of the show I felt something was “off.” You can’t expect people who go on to to be left alone. Fame always comes with a price. sorry.

Liz - I agree totally that the show has changed into something else. While I personally feel that KON was never a normal family, I realize that there isn’t a normal family in the entire world. They were interesting to me and I loved watching their beautiful children grow up. I still adore the children. I’m sorry if you feel the media is responsible for their issues because its totally the other way around. Their issues are causing everyone to start talking about them. Why else are any of you constanly searching the internet for them other than to find out gossip about them. If you really just liked the show you would just watch the show, buy their books, etc. People who I like, such as Tina Fey, I have no idea what they are like in real life. I don’t care. I don’t know her past, her history, who her friends are, what her favorite food is because that’s not normal to me to think about. Back in the day when old Hollywood existed, no one knew much about those stars … because they were such damn good entertainers. You fall in love on screen with them … and the ignorance was bliss.

Lots of good discussion here but I fear a major point is being overlooked: online learning (”distance ed” is the buzzword this year) is NOT cheaper than a brick and mortar education to the people that count the most, the STUDENTS! Phoenix and the other online unis are VERY expensive compared to your local state school or community college, and, since they’re apparently making boatloads of money now, they have no incentive to change this. As long as this remains true, online colleges are not going to replace brick-and-mortars schools for even lower division classes. Oh, they’ll grow, but so are the online offerings of conventional schools (where you get charged the same tuition as if you were sitting in the classroom). I teach DE courses and real-time courses and I tell potential online students NOT to take my lab online, if they can possibly avoid it. I try to make it an equivalent experience (it’s a damn good lab ), but it’s never going to be the same as having me watch what 20 (or fewer, this time of the semester) students are doing in real-time. Anyone who has ever used Skype will know there are ways to increase student-faculty interaction in DE classes but what they sometimes forget is that that kind of interaction doesn’t come cheaply: now you’re talking about paying real salaries to your faculty rather than the 10% on the dollar (or less) part timers and adjuncts make. There will always be a place, and a growing one, for DE, and some incredibly poorly run colleges will probably fail or mutate bc of it, but it’s not going to rule the educational universe. And some very expensive colleges will probably fail also, once they drain their endowments, especially the ones that price fix tuition with “comparison colleges” (the quicker they’re gone the better).

Oh, any research uni that still has 200+ person survey courses should be ashamed of themselves (which of course includes my alma mater, whose chairperson (my ph.d adviser) seems to be proud of the fact). At my extremely poorly funded, atrociously administered, VERY popular college science lectures are limited to 45 and labs to 20.

I am sorry to tell you that there are no online physical therapy assistant programs (not to be confused with a physical therapy aide). Even the APTA states directly on their website that CAPTE (the organization that accredits PT and PTA programs) does not/will not accredit any online programs for these professions. These are hands on careers; and, therefore, require a hands on education. If you want to become a PTA you need to go to a live, accredited program available at many community colleges. You can go to the education section of to get a list of accredited PTA programs.

However, there ARE online schools for a physical therapy AIDE/TECH position. This is NOT the same as a PTA. In all honesty, I think these programs (such as those offered by Penn Foster) are a waste of time and money. The aide position is primarily an on the job trained position with very limited patient contact (however that also depends on your state). Most aides are not allowed any patient contact except under the direct line of site supervision of a PT or PTA. Since you are receiving this level of supervision, I see little reason to become "certified" as an aide/tech. The eduction (which lasts from about 6 months to a year) hardly seems worth a $9-$10 an hour job. Go for 1 extra year to become a PTA and you will nearly double your income. However, if you really want to become a tech, just know that you do not need any formal education to become one. All of our techs at our facility were trained on the job. Their primary responsibilities include clerical work, cleaning the gym, and providing assitance during treatments (such as helping the therapist stand a patient, etc). Furthermore, the APTA nor CAPTE is not currently endorsing any aide training programs.

So what is the College Credential Review Program? it’s a in-depth program by the College Board which allows students to acquire college credit at many major colleges and universities including Yale and Sonoma State University. There are exams in dozens of subjects including Fire Management and Calculus.

Having taken some of the examinations myself, I can attest to their validity as an excellent program to get low cost credits. Read a textbook on the subject; I read a text on Philosophy. The next step is to apply for an examination through a testing center. Check the College Board website to search for testing centers around your area. Depending on the area you live around there might be up to a dozen various examination centers. Each exam costs around $55 but there is often an additional fee imposed by the testing center which vries in price.

At the test center, you’ll have to check in with the program manager. You will be led into a room with computers which run proprietary software. The examinations are all done on computer and offers students unexcelled flexibility in taking the test. One can go back to questions, mark them to review, skip questions, see how many questions one has left or any number of other operations. The software also features a calculator should you be taking a math test.

One of the nations leading colleges which accepts test out credits is the Monterey Polytechnic Institute. Monterey Polytechnic is a private institute in Monterey Bay, CA, USA which offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees specializing in Business, Professional Development, Public Relations, Social Work, and a number of other majors in the arts and sciences. Prior learning degree programs are also available. Monterey Polytechnic’s flexible schedule of lecture and online courses are specialized for working adults. Monterey Polytechnic Institute is known as one of the most respected, specialized, and cost effective colleges in the country.

So, why should you take it? If you are a junor or senior trying to finish up degree requirements, if you’re an expert in a particular field of study and would like recognition for it, or if you simply want to scoop the absurd costs imposed by colleges then College Assessment Level Program is for you. It is very cheap, only $75 for the exam and an admin fee that is almost always under $15. It is definitely a perfect way to get college credit based on what you already know without sitting through an university class for a semester. If you take chemistry in High School, for instance, there is no corresponding AP, but for college credit, consider taking a CLEP. It’s one day of your life and merely an hour and a half long. Additionally, you’ll find out if you pass immediately. A score of 55 is good enough for credit for most colleges. Check with your college for acceptance information.

It shows motivation which is good. As long as the "iSchool" is accredited the clases will transfer. Now, they may be considered "remedial" by some colleges and not Freshman level coursework. That depends on where you are transferrring and you need to talk to them. I know that none of the colleges where I am at participate in this kind of program so they would look skeptically on the credits if the school isn't accredited. But if it's not costing you any tution or anything it certainly can't hurt! At the very least you'll know everything when you take the "real" class and do better on the SAT/ACT or entrance exams.

Watch the course numbers. For instance here opening History is HIST 1010. For you it's History 101. When the course numbesr don't match exactly the schools look at the description and may ask to see some of the work you did to make sure that you learn everything they want covered, so save that stuff when possible.

Here's some information on iSchool transferring:

Many of those schools are "big names" and not near Cali. I say the program is legit and saves a ton of money so keep up the good work and take as many of them as you can handle!

The "Full time, four year, residential theological education" model may have worked well, but it also no doubt eliminated Moore as an option for many less resourced individuals & families.

That model also creates huge infrastructure needs - lecture theatres, classrooms, offices for staff, parking, etc, not to mention huge needs for accommodation for students.

If the GFC affects funding, perhaps moving some study online / external is one way to reduce the dependence on buildings.

Move to online / external subjects + part time options could also addresses the declining enrollment by making it a more financially viable option.

Flexible enrollment / subject delivery would also help address the generational issues. Many of your younger students will be (and probably already are) evangalising via sms, email, blogs, Twitter, etc. Insisting that their study must be face-to-face in a lecture / classroom setting misses a huge opportunity to educate students in how to stay true to the message through various media.

Finally, I’d suggest that if you really want students to impact their local communities, perhaps it would useful for them to live in their local communities whilst doing their studies. Live-in colleges can be extremely isolating and isolated - in that they are their own reality and completely removed from the real world of lost, broken & hurting people we are trying to reach. It’d be great for students to be grappling with real issues in their local community while studying, rather than later once they come out of the Moore "bubble".

Some of them are legitimate–others aren't. The best online programs are offered by traditional universities–although many of them do require some actual physical classroom presence, others do not. The University of Phoenix is accredited–although its mediocre in terms of academic quality.

In all honesty–you will be better off–and probably it will be cheaper–to go to a good publicuniversity in your state. If you need to, you can start at a local community college–the credits will transfer. Also bear in mind a degree in education requires student teaching–and you will have better contacts through a local university to do this. If your local university offers some courses online (many do now) that's fine–but trying to do the whole thing online is not a good idea.
