Whether you’re a native English speaker or have emigrated from another country, every one can stand to improve English speech, writing, comprehension and rhetorical skills. Language is our means of communication. When you advance your language skills, you become a better communicator and thus meet with greater success in your social and business interactions. Misunderstandings, due to poor English, can be avoided when you seek to improve your skills. Here are five easy exercises, that, when practiced consistently, will set you on the path to a mastery of English.
Improving English language skills always involves building your vocabulary. To this end, get a good dictionary. If you’re not a native English speaker, get a combination dictionary which provides two sections, one in your native language and the other in English. In either case, choose at least five new English words to learn each day. Keep a list as you go along and periodically review your list. With just five words per day, your vocabulary will increase by almost 2,000 words in a year! If you use a combination dictionary, look for words you know in your native language that you don’t know how to express in English. This method can really get you up to speed in a hurry.
When you look to improve English skills, a grammar book is essential. There are a number of excellent grammar books. One classic text is Strunk & White’s ‘Elements of Grammar’. Another terrific resource is ‘Essentials of English’, which covers grammar, correct usage and punctuation, with separate sections which teach you how to achieve clarity in your speech and writing, as well as getting into commonly misused words and expressions.
Although your grammar book discusses parts of sentences, syntax is often one of the most difficult areas to master. Syntax is how you order the words in a sentence. To improve English skills in this area, study the parts of sentences in particular detail. Practice and enlist the help of a skilled native English speaker to enhance your skills.
You’ve doubtless heard of the language immersion techniques, where a person is put amongst people who speak nothing but the native language. Through repetition, imagery and demonstration, people can learn a language in a couple of weeks, at least to a conversational level. Try this with friends and ask for corrections and feedback.
Finally, sign up for an English course. It can take place in a classroom, through an email course, distance learning or through online video seminars. Choose the venue that suits your abilities and schedule.
Follow these five avenues to improving English. Be consistent in your practice sessions. You’ll eventually achieve a relative degree of mastery of the English language. Remember, there’s always something left to learn!

All any certificate of education proves a person can do is jump through the hoops to get it. No government will 'waste' money teaching children to question everything they learn because they are believed likely to abuse the direction to question what they are taught. I went to a private school where questioning things was encouraged and I don't think I had a single lesson past the age of 14 in which someone didn't respond to what the teacher said with 'BUT IS IT? IS IT REALLY?' or something similarly annoying for a physics/maths/ICT teacher.. State schools (I'm talking about the UK) are already stretched for funds thanks to an inneffient funding system, which you're right, probably could be improved upon should the nation be better educated and therefore better prepared to tackle it, so they're hardly going to push money into kids questioning things and then going to other lessons and wasting teachers time with 'But Miss told me to question everything.. THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON WHY N SHOULD EQUAL MINUS ONE' and then disrupting the entire lesson and stalling education. I disagree that philosophy can lead to an eternity of enlightenment (sounds like a buddhist textbook) - more like an eternity of chaotic thinking and disarray. I question everything and in turn have a descisive answer for very little.

I’ll tell you how, Mel. It’s because the entire plan is unconstitutional despite the details. Congress doesn’t have the power, and never has had the power, to enact general legislation regarding health care. That’s because health care, the regulation of medicine, or control of the health care and insurance industries are nowhere indicated in the Constitution as powers belonging to Congress or the federal government in general. The enumeration of powers in the Constitution was intended to negatively imply that Congress could not exercise powers that weren’t given. In contrast, the United States Supreme Court has long declared that preservation of health, education and welfare are primarily the function of the States. Somewhere in that mix, the 10th Amendment would dictate that the federal government is prohibited from enacting a general health care plan.

I brought up the lack of detail first because Congress has a knack for making a bad thing worse. It is possible that such a plan could become even more onerous (and even more unconstitutional than it already appears to be) depending on how it is implemented. If, for instance, the plan involved forcing everyone into a private insurance contract under pain of monetary fine or tax penalties, then the plan would also run afoul of the Taking Clause of the Fifth Amendment. That was Hillary’s plain.

In addition, the implementation could simply be another form of blindly throwing money at a problem without any real consideration for where problems lie. That seems to be a trend right now. The TARP bailout and the $1 trillion stimulus package are just two examples of this. If people can’t appreciate the idea that Congress and the President are pursuing an unconstitutional policy, at least they can appreciate that the government is needlessly and wasting their hard earned money.

I am not sure I fully understand your question. I an a heating and air conditioning instructor at a local college in Saint Louis, MO. All of my students are adults. If you have any questions on how teaching adults is different than teaching high school I would be happy to share my insight. If you wish to know specifically about GED paperwork I am afraid I would not be of much help.

I just took a class that dealt with this….it was called Computers in the Classroom so we approached computers as if we would use them to enhance the classroom experience for children.
The first program that we learned was photoshop. We learned how to manipulate pictures…this taught us about pixels, saving photos for the web, etc. It was VERY helpful. Secondly we learned powerpoint. We used out photoshop pictures that we created and made an interactive activity using powerpoint. I had previous experience with powerpoint but I was able to experiment and learn many new techniques. We then learned FrontPage and made websites, we were able to resize and manipulate photos using our photoshop skills so that we could post them on our site. We then made a video project using Windows Movie Maker (LOVED this assignment). This introduced us to sound editing software and we used Audacity (free from the web and simple to use). We them linked all of these projects to our website. We kept a blog during the class to introduce us to online journaling and we were able to share information about our projects using the blog (blogger.com is a free blogging site)
I learned so many useful things during this class, we also discussed things like the digital divide and podcasting as a way of expanding our knowledge of all of the possibilities of technology.
Sorry for the long post, but I really liked how this class was set up. We started out basic and although we used different programs along the way in which we needed to learn new techniques, the beginning programs gave us a nice foundation and we were able to obtain a lot of transferable skills.

This will, to a large extent, depend upon you. Adult education tends to atttract a different personality type to Primary Teachers.
Spend a day in a primary school and a day in adult education and you soon see which you prefer.

Oh- and some Acute Care NP programs are providing education in adult AND pediatric care-look for one of those or do a joint Adult Acute Care and Peditric Acute Care program if you choose not to be a FNP.
