Bartending has long been one of the most popular professions worldwide. And while most of the skills bartenders need to be successful are learned on the job, bartending schools are another option to cover the basics. Over the past decade, learning and taking courses online has blossomed, and the bartending industry is no exception. There are now dozens of reputable online courses that will teach you how to become a bartender.

The question, though, is what kind of results you should expect. Whether you complete a bartending course in person or online, your ultimate expectations should be reasonable. Don’t expect to land a high paying bartending gig solely on the basis of having completed a course. It just doesn’t work that way. However, if you use such a course as a refresher or as a way to secure job placement, it may well prove worth your while.

There’s an obvious appeal to the bartender. He or she is, at any given moment, a social director, a friendly ear, or simply the person who delivers your drinks with a smile. A great bartender is one of a bar’s greatest assets, often bringing in a consistent crowd of regulars who enjoy stopping in and adding to the bottom line.

Bartenders themselves have a unique advantage, all things being equal. In the right establishment, an effective bartender can earn full time wages working part time hours. It’s not unusual for these hardworking barkeeps to take home several hundred dollars per shift. As a result, the bartending profession is viewed with great respect and is a desired occupation for many.

You can imagine my surprise when recently it an old retired pastor, sharply rebuked me for making some interesting points about the death burial in the resurrection of Jesus, and he quoted a Scripture 1Tim 1:4 “nor to occupy themselves with myths and endless genealogies.. ”

He answered “No”, when I asked him if I had said anything that was heretical. I went on to quietly explain that that particular Scripture was referring to the false teachings and philosophy of Gnosticism, not of genuine enquiry. He could not accept it.

This was a pastor who had laboured in the gospel of 40 years and yet he did not understand about Gnosticism and the problems that Paul spoke of in this passage. A congregation is not going to have much hope of understanding these things if the Pastor does not.

On my eighteenth birthday in honor to my entry into adulthood, I decided to get a tattoo. My friend Elaine, who was already eighteen, agreed to come with me and we duly made an appointment at the local tattoo parlor. She knew what tattoo she wanted, but I had no idea. Although I didn’t think that a tattoo of Tigger was the way to enter into a life of adulthood, Elaine wanted it and had made up her mind. I was pretty sure that if I was going to have a tattoo that was to be with me for the rest of my natural life, it had to be something meaningful. Something that said “me”! We arrived early to look through the stacks of tattoo books at the parlor, with me hoping that I would find what I was looking for.
